A 10-year-old Child Struck by Two Cars While Riding Bicycle
On Thursday, Nanaimo RCMP reported that a 10-year-old boy had been hit by two cars while riding his bicycle. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of Howard Ave. and Nova Street. The child was riding his bicycle down a steep driveway when he suddenly rode onto Howard Ave. and was struck by a southbound vehicle,” explained Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP. He added, “The child was then hit by a second vehicle traveling northbound on Howard Ave. Both drivers stopped, remained at the scene, and cooperated with investigators.”
The child was airlifted to a hospital in Victoria, and at this time, there is no update on his condition, according to the police.
Both drivers involved in the collisions stayed at the scene. Police have determined that speed, alcohol, and drugs were not contributing factors to the accident. The intersection remained closed for several hours for investigation purposes, and the RCMP victim services have been engaged.
