Ming-Chi Kuo Predicts Upgrades for iPhone 16 Pro Cameras, Genius to Provide Key Components
In a recent prediction, renowned Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo shared details about the future of the iPhone, specifically focusing on the camera upgrades for the iPhone 16 Pro. Kuo stated that Genius, a camera supplier for various Apple products, will play a key role in providing components for these devices.
Tetraprism Lens for Telephoto Camera
One of the major upgrades mentioned by Kuo is the inclusion of a tetraprism lens for the telephoto camera in the iPhone 16 Pro. This lens, similar to the one found in the iPhone 15 Pro Max zoom camera, will enhance zoom capabilities.
48-Megapixel Sensor for Ultra-Wide Lens
Kuo also revealed that the ultra-wide lens in the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 48-megapixel sensor. This significant upgrade from the 12-megapixel sensor in the previous model will greatly improve image quality.
Potential Size Expansion for iPhone 16 Pro
Reports suggest that Apple is considering bringing tetrazoom lenses to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max this year. However, to accommodate the larger tetraprism lens, Apple may need to increase the size of the iPhone 16 Pro. As a result, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have a 6.3-inch display instead of the usual 6.1-inch size. This change may cause the device to be taller and wider than its predecessor.
The size expansion will also impact the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is projected to feature a 6.9-inch screen instead of the current 6.7-inch panel found in the Pro Max models.
Genius’ Role in Supplying Camera Components
Kuo’s report highlights Genius as the supplier for the tetraprism and ultra-wide lenses in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Genius is expected to start shipping the tetraprism cameras for the iPhone 16 Pro in the second quarter of 2024 or early third quarter.
Anticipated Demand and Profit Prospects
With the larger screen and camera upgrades, Kuo predicts increased demand for the iPhone 16 Pro models, resulting in higher shipments compared to the iPhone 15 Pro series. Kuo also notes that even with a 10-15% price reduction for the periscope lens and Largan remaining the main supplier, the high unit price of the iPhone 16 Pro’s periscope lens can still significantly contribute to Genius’ revenue and profit in the second half of 2024.
Expectations for the Main Camera
While Kuo didn’t specifically mention any upgrades for the iPhone 16 Pro’s main camera, it is likely that Apple will retain the 48-megapixel wide camera for another year. However, improvements in the software side of the camera are expected, even if significant hardware changes may not be made in the upcoming model.
As Apple enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the release of the iPhone 16 Pro, the inclusion of the tetraprism lens and the 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens are among the highlights that will undoubtedly enhance the device’s camera capabilities.
