JMU football faces a tough challenge this Saturday as they take on a strong Georgia State team. Last season, JMU narrowly defeated Georgia State in a thrilling home game. To secure a win this time, the Dukes need to perform consistently throughout the match. Here are three key factors for JMU in Saturday’s game.

Effective Passing Game

JMU has a clear advantage in the passing game. Their offense is ranked second in efficiency in the Sun Belt and 11th nationally in success rate on passing plays. On the other hand, Georgia State’s defense struggles in pass defense, ranking among the bottom 30 teams nationally. JMU will look to utilize their passing attack with Reggie Brown and Elijah Sarratt testing Georgia State’s secondary.

Limit Georgia State’s Backfield

Georgia State boasts a strong quarterback-running back combination with Darren Grainger and Marcus Carroll. Carroll leads the Sun Belt in rushing while Grainger is highly efficient as a passer. The duo has given trouble to opposing defenses, with Georgia State scoring 30 or more points in five of their eight games this season. However, the Trojans were able to slow down the Panthers, holding them to a score of 7-28. JMU will aim to achieve a similar outcome and limit Georgia State’s offense.

Strong Finish in the Fourth Quarter

In recent weeks, JMU has excelled at closing out games, but they struggled in the fourth quarter against Old Dominion in their previous match. JMU needs to regain their momentum and finish strong. They have struggled to score in the final quarter, with only 21 points in their last six games. This can be attributed to their running game, which has not been successful. If JMU can establish a lead against Georgia State, they will need their running backs and offensive line to effectively manage the clock and secure the win.
