Game Recap:

SPRINGFIELD — In a nonconference boys basketball game, Springfield started strong with 44 points and seven made 3-pointers in the first half. However, they couldn’t maintain their momentum in the second half and fell 66-59 to Red Rock Central.

Springfield was playing in the second night of a back-to-back after a 76-70 win over BOLD on Thursday. The team struggled to continue their play in the second half without a rest day, according to Head Coach Lance Larson.

Coach Larson mentioned that Red Rock Central outplayed them, especially in terms of physicality and rebounding. He credited Red Rock Central for having a good game plan and acknowledged that his team may have been fatigued from the previous night’s game.

Noah Vogel led Springfield with 18 points and eight rebounds, followed by Isaac Fredin-Jensen with 17 points. Ben Potter also contributed with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals for Springfield.

On the Red Rock Central side, Jayden Long scored 24 points, while Isaac Simonson had 20 points and Corey Arkell added 10 points.

Springfield started strong in the first half, leading 44-28, thanks to successful ball movement and corner shots. However, their shooting performance declined in the second half, which allowed Red Rock Central to make a comeback.

Speaking about the second half, Coach Larson mentioned that fatigue played a role in their struggles. Red Rock Central’s defense, with their length bothering Springfield, also contributed to their scoring difficulties.

The game took a turn when RRC went on a run, cutting Springfield’s lead to one point. Despite a few moments of contention, RRC secured a 66-59 victory in the end.

Up next, Springfield (2-2) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
