Associate Vice Chancellor Barbara Hamilton Empowers Students Through Adult Education

Barbara Hamilton has dedicated her career to helping individuals achieve personal and professional growth through education. As the Associate Vice Chancellor of Adult Education at SAU Tech in Camden and Magnolia, Hamilton has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education in the lives of those in need. She finds great fulfillment in making a positive difference not only in the lives of her students but also in the lives of their families.

Achieving Success Through Guidance and Ambition

Hamilton, a native of Magnolia, credits her supportive mother for shaping her values and instilling in her the importance of compassion, resilience, and ambition. From a young age, Hamilton had a clear vision of wanting more from life and worked tirelessly to accomplish her goals. She believes that continuous learning and seeking out new opportunities are essential for personal growth.

A Remarkable Educational Background

Hamilton’s impressive educational background includes a Master of Education in Adult Education from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, a Master of Public Administration from Southern Arkansas University (SAU), a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from SAU. Although she initially envisioned a career in a top Fortune 500 company, Hamilton ultimately chose education and has found it to be fulfilling and rewarding.

With over 20 years devoted to higher education, Hamilton now focuses her efforts on leading the SAU Tech Adult Education Center, which serves as a bridge for many students seeking to improve their lives. The program offers opportunities for personal and professional growth and helps students overcome obstacles, gain new skills, and build confidence. Hamilton and her team provide a quality program and support system to facilitate positive changes in the lives of their students.

Believing in the Power of Possibility

Hamilton firmly believes that anything is possible when one sets their mind to it. Her favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13, serves as a constant reminder of her unwavering faith and the strength she draws from it. She encourages those in need of educational assistance not to let fear hold them back and assures them that SAU Tech is there to help.

The SAU Tech Adult Education program offers numerous benefits and support services, including flexible schedules, long-distance learning options, and support for individuals with disabilities. The program also assists with daycare and transportation needs, provides career planning services, and offers certifications and training in various fields such as manufacturing, food service, and healthcare.

Expanding Opportunities

Hamilton is actively involved in various committees and organizations, including the Arkansas Adult Education Advisory Committee and the Southwest Arkansas Workforce Development Board. She is also a charter member and Vice President of the Nu Chi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority, Inc. Additionally, the Adult Education sites will soon offer CDL training in collaboration with River Rock CDL Training LLC to provide individuals with the opportunity to obtain their CDL license.

A Passion for Family and Leisure

In her personal life, Hamilton cherishes spending quality time with her husband, Coltis, her two sons, Sharbrodric and DeUnta, and her three grandchildren, Saylor, Kacey, and Stella. She enjoys shopping, traveling, and attending sporting events during her leisure time.
