Wheeling Park Patriots Dominate University Hawks in 63-50 Victory

The Wheeling Park Patriots showcased their dominance in a 63-50 victory over the University Hawks on February 2, 2024. Led by Aiden Davis and Mykel Davis, the Patriots secured a comfortable win and entered the OVAC Tournament as the two seed.

Aiden Davis was the standout player of the game, scoring an impressive 35 points and securing a double-double with 10 rebounds. He also contributed four assists and three steals. Wheeling Park head coach Michael Jebbia praised Davis’s all-around performance, highlighting his ability to handle the pressure from the University defense.

The Patriots also had a strong showing at the foul line, shooting an impressive 87% compared to University’s 74%. Coach Jebbia commended the team’s effort and emphasized the importance of individual practice to improve free-throw shooting.

In addition to Aiden Davis’s stellar performance, Mykel Davis also had a solid game for the Patriots, scoring 19 points and grabbing six rebounds. The Patriots’ balanced attack and their ability to control key statistical categories, including rebounds, turnovers, and assists, contributed to their victory over the Hawks.

Although the Hawks made a late comeback attempt, fueled by key 3-pointers from Noah Kleeh, they were unable to close the gap entirely. Wheeling Park’s consistent offensive play and their ability to convert from the free-throw line ultimately secured their victory.

Despite facing adversity with the absence of starting guard Amare Johnson due to injury, the Patriots had several younger players step up and fill the void. Coach Jebbia commended their performances and praised the overall team effort.

With the win, the Patriots now turn their attention to the upcoming OVAC Tournament Semifinals, where they will face their rival Brooke. The game is scheduled for February 6 at 7 p.m. On the other hand, University will host Parkersburg South in the conference consolation pool on the same day.

Overall, the Wheeling Park Patriots’ strong performance against the University Hawks showcased their ability to execute on both ends of the court. With a balanced scoring attack and a solid defensive effort, they will enter the OVAC Tournament with confidence and determination to secure a championship.
