A Tenessee couple found safe near their car after being missing for over a week
Couple Jonas Bare, 50, and Cynthia Hovsepian, 37, were found safe by a hiker in Fairbanks, Alaska. They had gone missing while hiking on an established trail and had survived eight days in the wilderness.
The family believes that Bare and Hovsepian became disoriented due to the 20 hours of sunlight per day and the low temperatures during the twilight hours. They were found just two miles from their parked car.
Reunion with family
A picture of Bare covered in dirt and wearing an Alaska T-shirt was shared on Facebook after the couple was found. He stood beside his father, Billy, who had tirelessly searched for his son in the woods multiple times over the past week.
Missing report
Bare and Hovsepian were reported missing on August 11 after they didn’t check out of their Airbnb rental and left all their luggage behind. The dark-blue Jeep Compass they were renting was found abandoned at the Chena Hot Springs Resort near the hiking trail.
Surviving in the wilderness
How Bare and Hovsepian managed to survive for eight days in the unfamiliar wilderness, especially considering Hovsepian’s visual impairment and reliance on a cane, remains a mystery.
