Temperatures Drop, Action Heats Up at State College Invitational

University Park — The temperatures may have been freezing on the outside of the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor track, but the action was hot and heavy Wednesday night at the State College Invitational.

Both the Mifflin County and Juniata indoor track and field teams showcased their talent throughout the event.

Mifflin County Highlights

  • Carter Smith took the top spot in the 800-meter run, finishing with an impressive time of 1:57.80.
  • Myka Simmons finished second in the 60-meter run and fourth in the 200-meter run.
  • Other notable performances include Ava Kratzer’s 13th place finish in the mile and Cyrell Green’s 10th place finish in the boys’ triple jump.

Juniata Highlights

  • Sylvia Brubaker finished third in the girls’ mile with a time of 5:36.96.
  • Heath Hutchinson represented Juniata in the boys’ 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 13th place.
  • The boys’ 4×400 relay team secured a third place finish with a time of 3:42.83.

Impressive Competition

The State College Invitational drew teams from all over Pennsylvania, including Saint Joseph High School, Altoona, Bellefonte, Indiana, Cumberland Valley, and Hollidaysburg.

Coach Tamara Sechler praised the event, stating, “We had a really nice event. We haven’t competed in a while, so I thought they did well.”

Next Steps

The Mifflin County indoor track and field team will visit Susquehanna University on Sunday for a meet starting at 10 a.m.
