Palestinian-American Beauty Entrepreneurs and Supermodel Pay Tribute to Their Grandparents

US Palestinian beauty entrepreneurs Simi and Haze Khadra, along with US Dutch Palestinian supermodel Bella Hadid, recently expressed their love and admiration for their respective grandparents on social media. The Khadra twins, known as beauty entrepreneurs and DJs, shared a heartfelt post celebrating their grandmother’s birthday. They honored their grandmother, teta Fairouz, who was born in Akka, Palestine and was forcibly expelled from her home by Israeli forces in 1948. The twins praised her selflessness, strength, generosity, and integrity, which are qualities commonly associated with Palestinians.

Khadra Sisters’ Charitable Efforts

In addition to their tribute, the Khadra sisters announced that all sales from their makeup brand, SimiHaze Beauty, on their website until November 27 will be donated to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF). The PCRF focuses on providing free medical care and arranging for children from Gaza to receive the help they need to survive. Simi and Haze have a strong relationship with the PCRF, having collaborated on successful fundraising campaigns in the past that have significantly improved the lives of children in need.

Bella Hadid’s Fond Memories of Her Grandfather

Meanwhile, Bella Hadid took to Instagram Stories to commemorate her grandfather. Although he passed away when she was young, his memory continues to resonate with her. Bella shared a photo of her paternal grandfather and expressed her deep love for him. She reflected on his laughter, warm hugs, and voice, but also highlighted the injustice of him not being buried in his place of birth alongside his ancestors who had built the city. Bella’s personal connection to her Palestinian roots fuels her desire to see a free, equal, and liberated Palestine, in honor of her beloved grandfather.

Celebrating Palestinian Heritage

This is not the first time Bella Hadid has used her platform to celebrate her Palestinian background. On her father’s birthday, she posted a special tribute on Instagram, emphasizing his Palestinian roots. The post included a picture of Bella and her father, Mohamed Hadid, at the “Labour of Love” exhibition in Doha. The exhibition explored the symbolism of the Palestinian thobe, a traditional garment. Bella’s caption highlighted her father’s birth in Nazareth, Palestine in 1948, the same year as the Nakba or “The Catastrophe.” She shared the story of her family’s displacement, becoming refugees, and enduring 75 years of violence against Palestinians, including brutal settler invasions and forced evictions.
