Unbelievable! Blue Jays triumph over Red Sox in grueling 13-inning marathon, creating a historical sports frenzy!

Whit Merrifield’s RBI single in the 13th inning secured a crucial 4-3 victory for the Blue Jays over the Boston Red Sox, keeping Toronto’s playoff aspirations alive. Rafael Devers’ two-run homer in the sixth inning supported the excellent performance of Chris Sale for Boston. Pablo Reyes also contributed with an RBI single in the 12th inning. Despite Sale’s near no-hitter, allowing only one run on two hits and striking out 10, the Blue Jays managed to tie the game twice. Daulton Varsho’s RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth and Bo Bichette’s sacrifice fly in the 12th were instrumental in Toronto’s comeback. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s solo home run in the seventh inning also contributed to the victory. The win placed the Blue Jays just one game behind the Texas Rangers and on par with the Seattle Mariners in the wild-card chase. The duration of the game was four hours and one minute.

In terms of pitching, Chris Bassitt gave up two runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings for the Blue Jays, with five strikeouts. The bullpen consisted of Tim Mayza, Erik Swanson, Jordan Romano, Jordan Hicks, and Chad Green, with Green receiving the win (3-0). Sale’s no-hit bid was broken in the fifth inning when catcher Alejandro Kirk hit a single, but Kirk was quickly tagged out trying to stretch it into a double. Sale was highly efficient, requiring only 58 pitches in the first five innings and registering seven strikeouts during that span. Devers’ home run in the sixth inning marked his 32nd of the season, giving Boston a 2-0 lead. George Springer’s spectacular diving catch in the seventh inning thrilled the sold-out crowd of 42,276 at Rogers Centre. Bassitt set a new personal record for innings pitched in a season with 185 2/3, surpassing his previous best of 181 2/3 in the previous year. Guerrero’s solo home run in the seventh inning was his third consecutive game with a home run.

In the ninth inning, pinch-hitter Cavan Biggio’s single and a wild pitch from John Schreiber allowed him to advance to scoring position. Varsho then hit a triple, driving home Biggio and tying the game at 2-2. After two scoreless innings, Reyes delivered an RBI single in the 12th inning to give Boston the lead once again. However, Bichette’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th allowed Varsho to score, forcing the game to continue. The Blue Jays’ Hyun Jin Ryu will start in the series finale against the Red Sox, while the Red Sox will send Nick Pivetta to the mound.
