ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Braylen Blomquist, a senior at St. Clairsville High School, has taken a significant step towards fulfilling his dream of playing college baseball. Blomquist signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to attend NCAA Division I Wright State University on a full scholarship.

Baseball runs in the Blomquist family, with Braylen’s father, Dave, and older brothers, Tyler and Kaden, all having played the sport. Following in their footsteps, Braylen is excited about the opportunity to continue his baseball journey at the collegiate level.

Blomquist, a talented shortstop known for his excellent fielding skills, has been recognized for his outstanding performance on the field. He has received multiple honors, including being named to the All-Eastern District first team three times, All-OVAC Class 4A pick for three years, and All-Buckeye 8 honoree for three years. He has also been voted as his team’s top defensive player for three consecutive seasons.

During his summer season with St. Clairsville Post 159, Blomquist showcased his offensive abilities as well. In 24 games, he maintained an impressive batting average of .389, with 20 singles, eight doubles, and 17 RBIs. He also displayed his speed on the basepaths, successfully stealing nine bases.

Wright State University, a Horizon League competitor, has a strong baseball program with notable achievements. The team has won the league title six times in the past seven seasons and has advanced to the NCAA regionals for three consecutive years. Blomquist spoke highly of the coaches, campus, and the program’s tenacity, expressing his enthusiasm for joining the school.

As Blomquist looks forward to his senior season in high school, he remains focused on his immediate goals while cherishing the opportunity to play alongside his talented teammates. With his commitment to Wright State, Blomquist is set to continue the proud tradition of exceptional shortstops from St. Clairsville.

Both Blomquist and his teammate, Mason Myers, were recognized during the signing ceremony. Myers will be attending the University of Findlay, an NCAA Division II school in Ohio.
