Another wildfire has been detected in the interior of British Columbia. The fire is burning near Glen Lake, west of Peachland, and is believed to have been caused by human activity. The BC Wildfire Service estimates that the fire is currently about 50 hectares in size.

The fire was first discovered on Saturday evening at around 6 p.m. The BC Wildfire Service responded quickly to the fire, and crews will be returning today to continue the firefighting efforts. An initial attack crew is currently on site, along with a small group of heavy equipment that is either en route or already at the scene. Aerial resources will also be available throughout the day, as long as the conditions allow it.

Overnight, the fire grew by approximately 40 hectares. According to Shaelee Stearns, a fire information officer with the BC Wildfire Service, the fire is being fueled by warm and dry conditions, combined with high wind gusts. The forecast for the weekend predicted higher temperatures, lower humidity, and stronger winds, which have all contributed to the increase in fire activity. As a result, smoke from the fire will likely be highly visible today in the surrounding communities and for drivers on Highway 97C.

Fortunately, at this time, no structures are immediately threatened by the wildfire. The BC Wildfire Service will continue to monitor and combat the fire to ensure the safety of the area. ​
