Tejasvi Surya’s Controversial Remarks on Congress’ Support for Palestine Shake Indian Political Landscape – Must-Read Developments

Newspaper Rewrite: Congress’s Support for Palestine Hostage to ‘Minority Vote Bank Politics’, Says BJP MP

The Congress Working Committee’s resolution on Palestine has been deemed a classic example of Indian foreign policy being held hostage to the Congress party’s ‘minority vote bank politics’ by Tejasvi Surya, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Surya’s statement came in response to the resolution, which reiterated the Congress party’s support “for the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government, and to live with dignity and respect.” The Congress Working Committee (CWC) serves as the highest decision-making body of the party.

“Congress’s CWC resolution on the Israel war is a classic example of how Indian foreign policy was hostage to Congress’s minority vote bank politics, until Modi happened,” wrote Tejasvi Surya on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The national president of BJP Yuva Morcha concluded his remarks with a warning, stating, “Also, a reminder on how quickly things will go back to zero if we aren’t vigilant in 2024.”

Following a four-hour long meeting of the Congress’s highest decision-making body, the party expressed “dismay and anguish” over the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and announced its support for the Palestinian people. The Congress Working Committee reiterated its long-standing support for the Palestinians’ right to land, self-government, and a dignified and respectful life. The resolution also emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations on all outstanding issues that have contributed to the conflict.

BJP Leaders Criticize Congress over Resolution

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who appeared in the BJP’s list of candidates for the Rajasthan Assembly polls, also criticized the Congress for its resolution. Rathore pointed out that the Ministry of External Affairs, through the Prime Minister’s Office, should shape the country’s outlook on international incidents. He blamed the Congress for diverging from the country’s ideas and promoting its own thoughts, claiming that a similar situation occurred during the Doklam issue.

Fears of Souring Relations

In addition, Congress leader Rashid Alvi expressed concern that India’s support for Israel could strain its ties with Gulf countries. Alvi claimed that India should have exhibited the same attitude towards ending the Israel-Palestine war as it did during the Ukraine-Russia conflict, as civilians are being killed and a ceasefire is necessary. He suggested that the Indian government should have engaged in dialogue with both countries involved and avoid supporting only one side in the conflict.

AIMIM Chief’s Remark

Previously, Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), invoked a late BJP leader’s statement on Palestine and criticized the Congress for its shift in stance after coming into power.

PM Modi’s Solidarity Message to Israel

On October 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed a message of solidarity to Israel on X, expressing deep shock over the terrorist attacks and offering thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families. He assured Israel of India’s unwavering support at this difficult hour.

Congress Condemns Attacks on Israel

In contrast, the Congress party condemned the attacks on Israel, with Jairam Ramesh, a general secretary of the party, stating that violence of any kind never solves problems and must be stopped. Ramesh highlighted the Congress party’s belief in fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people through dialogue and negotiations while also considering the legitimate national security interests of the Israeli people.
