Moore’s ‘Raising the Bar’

On September 13, Governor Wes Moore addressed hundreds of workforce professionals at the Maryland Workforce Association’s annual “Raising the Bar” conference. The event partnered Governor Moore with Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu, Maryland Workforce Association President Kirk Murray, and Maryland Workforce Association Executive Director Brandon Butler. The conference offers an opportunity for workforce and educational professionals to connect and discuss innovative solutions for job seekers, youth, and businesses.

The Maryland Workforce Association is composed of 13 local workforce directors who collaborate with the Maryland Department of Labor and state workforce partners. These directors aim to share best practices, advocate for the public workforce system, and establish relationships with elected officials and businesses across the state. Local workforce development boards connect Marylanders to job opportunities through services provided at Maryland’s 32 American Job Centers. They are regional leaders in data-driven, business-led talent development that is vital for Maryland’s economic competitiveness and ensuring the state’s economic growth.

2023 Maryland Grazing School

The Maryland Grazing School is scheduled to take place on September 21-22 at the Western Maryland Research and Education Center in Keedysville. Each day, the school will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This two-day grazing school is designed to provide producers with a comprehensive education in pasture and grazing management.

Topics covered will range from forage selection to pasture assessment, grazing management, pasture allocation, fencing and watering options, extending the grazing season, and more. Enrollment is limited to 30 people to ensure a small group size and allow for increased interaction and networking opportunities.
