Andy Reid Named Top NFL Head Coach by AP Pro Football Writers

Andy Reid has once again claimed the top spot among NFL head coaches, as voted by a panel of nine AP Pro Football Writers. Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach, received eight out of nine first-place votes, solidifying his status as one of the most successful coaches in the league.

The rankings were based on the coaches’ current performance through Week 8 of the season. First-place votes earned 10 points, while second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2, and 1 points respectively. Reid also received eight out of nine first-place votes in the preseason poll.

Other coaches who received votes included six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick, Doug Pederson, Kyle Shanahan, Mike Tomlin, and Nick Sirianni.

Top 5 Head Coaches:

  1. Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs

With a track record of success, Reid has led the Chiefs to a winning record for an impressive 11th consecutive season. The team has also reached the AFC title game in the past five seasons and won two Super Bowls.

  2. Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers

Shanahan, despite not winning a Super Bowl, has guided the 49ers to one Super Bowl appearance and two NFC championship games. Despite recent losses, the team started the season with a strong 5-0 record.

  3. Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia Eagles

Although finishing third, Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles have the best record in the NFL with a 7-1 record. Despite some ups and downs, Sirianni has proven to be a consistent coach.

  4. John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens

Harbaugh’s Ravens are currently leading the competitive AFC North division, despite facing numerous injuries. With a Super Bowl ring to his name, Harbaugh is on track for another winning season.

  5. Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers

Tomlin’s Steelers have never had a losing season in his 16-year tenure as head coach. Currently with a 4-3 record, Tomlin faces the challenge of maintaining his streak of consistent success.

A total of 12 coaches received votes in the rankings, including Pete Carroll, Sean McVay, Dan Campbell, Sean McDermott, and Mike McDaniel.
