Square Enix has announced that they will be releasing a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) based on the massively multiplayer online game, Final Fantasy 14. The Final Fantasy 14 TTRPG will be released in May 2024, with pre-orders already available for purchase at a price of $59.99.

The starter set for the Final Fantasy 14 TTRPG includes a player book aimed at beginners, which explains the game’s rules in a beginner-friendly manner. Additionally, there is a book for game masters that provides tips, advice, and three premade scenarios that directly connect to the storyline of the online game. This tabletop game is designed for parties of five players, but can accommodate as few as three players.

The starter set is specifically targeted towards individuals new to tabletop gaming, and includes four premade character sheets for warrior, white mage, dragoon, and black mage roles. It also includes a rules summary and strategy guide, 16 custom dice, an encounter map, character tokens, and ability markers.

Square Enix has plans to release a full standard rulebook as well as an extensive game master guide with more premade scenarios. These additional resources are listed as “coming soon” on the official website.

While there have been numerous video game adaptations of tabletop games, it is relatively rare for MMOs to make the transition to tabletop gaming. Final Fantasy 14’s transition to a TTRPG format is an exciting and intriguing development, as it allows players to experience the game’s rules and explore the world of Eorzea in a more interactive and player-led setting.
