Thomas also highlighted that approximately 80 percent of the company’s expenditure for these developments will go towards Canadian-based suppliers, contractors, and workforce resources. He expressed optimism that this investment will contribute to the growth of surrounding communities.

The completion of Jansen Stage 2 is expected by 2029, and BHP aims to build a workforce of about 900 individuals to support various aspects of the Jansen mine. Thomas emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining a balanced workforce, with women representing 40 percent and First Nations people representing 10 percent of their workforce. BHP is actively working to increase First Nations representation to over 20 percent.
