Review of the Genesis GV80 (2023): A Familiar Offering from Genesis

SUV tops the Genesis UK range with limited engine options

The Genesis GV80 is a luxurious SUV that sits at the top of the UK range. It offers seating for five, six, or seven passengers and competes with premium SUVs like the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes GLE. However, it disappoints with only one engine choice and lackluster performance.

Engine Specifications

The Genesis GV80 is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a turbocharger, producing 300bhp. While it’s not slow, it falls short compared to its rivals. It lacks an electric option, resulting in higher CO2 emissions and poor fuel economy.

Driving Experience

The four-cylinder engine in the GV80 requires effort to deliver the expected performance, accompanied by a noisy soundtrack. The ride comfort is satisfactory at high speeds but struggles on urban roads. The handling is decent, but it lacks the engaging feel of competitors like the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne.

Interior and Features

The Genesis GV80 boasts a truly luxurious interior with high-quality materials and excellent build quality. The infotainment system is logically laid out and responsive, with a large touchscreen display. The cabin offers ample space for occupants, although the third-row seating is not as spacious as some rivals.

Trims and Rivals

The GV80 is available in three trims: Premium, Sport, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. The base Premium trim is well-equipped, while the Sport and Luxury trims offer additional features. However, the top-level Luxury Plus trim feels underpowered considering its high price. Rivals like the BMW X5 offer a better overall package.

The Genesis GV80 is a good-looking car in search of a better powertrain. While it offers a luxurious interior and decent driving experience, it falls short in engine performance and ride comfort. With the limited engine options available, opting for rival SUVs like the BMW X5 would be a more compelling choice.
