UH-Maui College’s Pa’ina Market Reopens to the Public After Assisting Fire-Displaced Residents

The University of Hawai’i Maui College’s Pa’ina Market is once again open to the public following weeks of culinary students preparing thousands of meals for residents displaced by a fire.
World Plate and Paniolo Grill Resume Lunch Service
The award-winning Culinary Arts Program at UH-Maui College operates the World Plate and Paniolo Grill, both renowned for their lunch offerings. Chef instructors with extensive experience guide the students in running these establishments. Starting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday through Thursday, customers can indulge in the delicious meals prepared by these aspiring culinary professionals.
Returning to Normalcy and Providing Relief
For World Plate Chef Instructor Gary Johnson, the reopening of the Pa’ina Market marks the return to a sense of normalcy. In addition to personally finding it cathartic and rewarding to assist the community in the aftermath of the wildfire disaster, Johnson emphasizes how significant it is for students and their families who were impacted by the fires to have structure reintroduced into their lives. The relief efforts created a unique learning experience, as many of Johnson’s students were actively involved in the relief efforts, resulting in a highly experienced class for a first-year course.

Throughout the upcoming weeks, Pa’ina Market aims to impress its customers with European-inspired menus. Furthermore, students are developing a Korean-inspired menu that will be featured during the first week of December.
