Kanye West Working on New Album
It’s been a little while since Kanye West has graced the world with a new album that was widely available. Now, a new report claims that he’s been hard at work on his next collection for the past few months, and fans may be able to hear it sometime soon.
NBC News reports that sources close to the controversial rapper state that he has been in the studio all summer long working on new material. He has been crafting a new full-length album, and apparently, those who have been in the room with him have heard some of the songs.
One of the sources hinted that fans might not need to wait very long to hear what Kanye has been cooking up. “New music is imminent,” the source claimed, though no more specific timeline was provided.
Interestingly, the NBC report also points out that the source wasn’t sure what platform this new music would be released on. That’s not a worry that applies to almost any other artist, but West is different. The rapper released his last album, Donda 2, only on his own proprietary Stem music player, which is essentially a small speaker. Super fans who wanted to hear the collection needed to shell out hundreds to buy the product just to listen to the tunes.
Despite the fact that Donda 2 was originally only released on the Stem player, several songs featured on the project have reached the Hot 100, meaning they were made available in other forms. Donda 2 was reportedly not completely finished, as the musician kept making changes to the project.
West’s last album that was released to the whole world was Donda. He dropped that set, named after his late mother, in August 2021. The title went right to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming his tenth leader on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. Donda went on to earn several Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.
Since releasing Donda, West has been embroiled in controversy. He was dropped from seemingly all of his major brand partnerships after making anti-Semitic comments and offending millions around the world. His label seems to have distanced itself from the hip-hop star as well. He was also cut from his talent agency, CAA, and little has been heard from him since his string of embarrassing interviews and social media posts.
For his part, West has not commented publicly on the report, and he hasn’t provided any hints that new music is on the way. He has been spotted out and about, and he even recently took to the stage with Travis Scott, performing live for the first time in recent memory.
