No. 12 John Carroll Defeats Marietta College 31-28

No. 12 John Carroll dominated the first quarter, taking a commanding 21-0 lead against Marietta College in the Ohio Athletic Conference game. Although Marietta College fought back, John Carroll managed to hold on for a 31-28 victory, extending their unbeaten streak against Marietta College to 36 games.

Early Lead for John Carroll

The Blue Streaks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring a touchdown just 2 minutes and 11 seconds into the game. Joe Collins connected with Brennan Fugh for a 37-yard touchdown pass. Four plays later, Jon Tomcufcik rushed for a 4-yard touchdown, giving John Carroll a 14-0 lead. Another touchdown pass from Collins to Fugh extended their lead to 21-0.

Marietta College’s Comeback Effort

Marietta College struggled to find their footing in the first quarter, but they started to rally in the second. Quarterback Connor Vierstra threw a touchdown pass to Jay Melchiori, narrowing the gap to 14 points. Marietta College continued their comeback in the third quarter, with Vierstra throwing another touchdown pass to Dawson Snyder. The deficit was reduced to just 3 points.

John Carroll Holds On

Despite Marietta College’s late surge, John Carroll managed to hold on to their lead. A 48-yard touchdown pass from Collins to Lucas D’Orazio extended their advantage to 10 points. Marietta College responded with another touchdown, but John Carroll’s defense stood firm in the final minutes, securing a 31-28 victory.

Impressive Performances

Snyder stood out for Marietta College, racking up 15 catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Melchiori also had a strong performance with seven catches for 80 yards. For John Carroll, Collins threw for three touchdowns, while Fugh and D’Orazio made vital contributions in the passing game.

Marietta College will look to bounce back in their next game against Wilmington, while John Carroll prepares for a showdown with Ohio Northern.
