Tamarack Valley Energy Announces Reclamation Work for Depleted Natural Gas Wells near Cottonwood Park

Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. has revealed that the four sweet natural gas wells located near Cottonwood Park are almost depleted and will soon undergo abandonment and reclamation work. President and CEO Brian Schmidt explained that as the city expands, there will be areas where the company has operated in the past.

In collaboration with the developer planning to build houses in the area, Tamarack Valley Energy will utilize a service rig to complete the four-day reclamation process. Schmidt emphasized that the company is not drilling new wells, but rather reclaiming the land. Cement plugs will be installed in the wells to isolate them safely and prevent any leakage.

Once the cement is in place, the reclamation process will commence, involving restoration of the soil and returning it to its natural state. The company aims to be transparent and proactive in notifying the community about its activities, learning from a past incident where residents and the city council were not informed about the installation of a production well.

Tamarack Valley Energy, with a track record of successful reclamation projects, highlights its largest project conducted outside the Blood Reserve, which involved cleaning up a compressor station three years ago.

The City of Lethbridge, previously expressing concerns over Tamarack’s operations, welcomed the announcement of reclamation. The city acknowledges that three existing sweet gas-producing wells and a pipeline on the west side of Lethbridge will be abandoned, clearing the way for more efficient urban development and community planning. Residents are encouraged to contact Tamarack Valley Energy directly with any questions or concerns.

The reclamation work is being carried out on land owned by Daytona Urban Development Corp, the same developer responsible for the Copperwood neighborhood. The development plans for the area are awaiting the completion of the reclamation process.
