Sublime with Rome: Carrying on the Legacy of a Nineties Rock Band
American rock band Sublime – preserving a timeless sound
Sublime, the American rock band consisting of Bradley Nowell, Eric Wilson, and Bud Gaugh, emerged in the Nineties with their captivating blend of rock, reggae, and ska. Their hits like “Wrong Way,” “Santeria,” “Badfish,” and “What I Got” resonated with music lovers around the world.
Following the tragic death of Bradley Nowell in 1996, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh formed Sublime with Rome, adding frontman Rome Ramirez to the lineup. Since then, the band has released three albums, and their music continues to captivate audiences worldwide. They are now preparing for the release of their next record, with the lead single “Cool & Collected” featuring fellow American band Slightly Stoopid.
An interview with Rome Ramirez
Rome Ramirez, the frontman of Sublime with Rome, recently spoke with Rolling Stone India about their new song, collaborating with Slightly Stoopid, their ongoing tour, and the possibility of coming to India.
What has the band been up to since releasing “Goodbyes” in 2019?
Rome Ramirez shares, “A lot has changed since then, and we’ve been keeping ourselves busy with recording new music and playing some huge national tours! We just released a new song as well and plan on releasing more in the coming months!”
Taking a closer look at “Cool and Collected”
Ramirez explains, “The song came together organically as I ran into Miles [Doughty], one of the singers of Slightly Stoopid backstage at a festival. We talked about how fun the summer was going to be and how cool it would be for us to collaborate. I quickly put together an idea that represented both bands and sent it over to them. They loved it, and we started working on it almost immediately. It truly came together naturally.”
Collaborating with Slightly Stoopid
Ramirez expresses his admiration for Slightly Stoopid, saying, “Those guys are great. They bring such a great vibe and a great contribution of musicality with their band. I love working on music with those guys and hopefully, we can do more in the future.”
A sneak peek into the upcoming album
Rome Ramirez reveals, “This is the first single from an upcoming album that we plan on releasing next year. We have a lot of music to share until then.”
The current tour: a summer camp on wheels
Reflecting on the ongoing tour, Ramirez says, “This tour has been like a giant summer camp on wheels. Everybody gets along so well, and the music complements each other throughout the entire evening. It’s the way it should be.”
Continuing the legacy of Sublime and Bradley Nowell
With respect to the late Bradley Nowell and the impact of Sublime’s music, Rome Ramirez shares, “It’s an absolute honor and privilege to be the one who gets to go out there and sing the songs every night to the fans. I’ve been a Sublime fan my whole life, so this position really means the world to me. There isn’t a night that goes by where I don’t think about Brad while I’m on that stage.”
A message for fans in India
To their fans in India, Rome Ramirez expresses, “I have nothing but absolute love for India. It would be a dream to come out there and play music for you all! Let’s make it happen.”
