Shanghai Fashion Week Ranks Among Top Five Global Fashion Events

BEIJING, Oct. 10, 2023 /CNW/ — The Global Fashion Industry Index – Fashion Week Vitality Index Report for 2022 was officially unveiled in Shanghai on October 8.

According to a report released by China Economic Information Service under Xinhua News Agency, Shanghai Fashion Week has been ranked among the top five fashion events in the world, following Paris, Milan, New York, and London.

The report emphasizes the importance of global fashion events in innovating consumption scenes and stimulating vitality in the fashion industry. It suggests that these events play a crucial role in the development of international consumption center cities.

The report evaluates various sub-indexes to measure the impact and influence of fashion weeks. The sub-index of “factor agglomeration” assesses the “hard power” of these events, including the number of fashion activities and the participation of globally recognized brands. The study highlights that international fashion weeks continue to lead global fashion trends.

The sub-index of “media transmission” measures factors such as online media coverage, internet search and social media popularity, reflecting the social attention and recognition received by global fashion weeks. Shanghai Fashion Week demonstrated an impressive performance in terms of internet search and social media popularity, ranking after only Paris and New York.

Another sub-index, “industry influence,” focuses on the “soft power” of the fashion industry, evaluating factors such as the number of designers, venue construction, and fashion education. Asian fashion weeks still have room for growth compared to the first-tier global fashion events.

The report, first released in March 2018, aims to represent the voice of China in the global fashion industry through quantitative analysis using evaluation models based on factor agglomeration, media transmission, and industry influence.
