Kelowna to Host Montana’s Brier in 2025

Kelowna, British Columbia, has been selected as the host city for the Montana’s Brier, the Canadian men’s curling championship, in 2025. This will be the first time since 1968 that the championship will be held in Kelowna.

The decision to host the event in Kelowna was made by Curling Canada, who expressed their excitement about bringing back the Brier to the Okanagan region after nearly 60 years. The 2021 Brier, originally planned to take place in Kelowna, had to be moved to Calgary due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament will be held at Prospera Place from February 28 to March 9. It is expected to have a significant economic impact on the city, similar to the $16 million generated by Lethbridge, Alberta, when they hosted the event.

Cultural Heritage and Natural Beauty

Tom Dyas, the mayor of Kelowna, emphasized the importance of the event and its potential to showcase the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the Okanagan Valley. The organizers are working closely with the Okanagan Syilx people to ensure that the event acknowledges and respects their traditional territory.

Road to the World Championship and Olympics

The winner of the 2025 Brier will go on to represent Canada at the 2025 BKT Tires World Men’s Championship, with the location and dates of that event yet to be announced. Additionally, a top-six finish at the world championship will grant the winner a spot in the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials, where teams will be selected for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Montana’s BBQ & Bar Sponsorship

Montana’s BBQ & Bar will continue as the title sponsor of the Brier in 2025, following their multi-year partnership with Curling Canada. This will be the eighth time the event is held in British Columbia, with the most recent one taking place in Kamloops in 2014.

Ticket and Volunteer Information

More details about purchasing tickets and volunteering for the 2025 Brier will be released in early 2024. The Kelowna Rockets, a local junior ice hockey team, will also make way for the tournament by temporarily giving up their rink at Prospera Place.

Overall, the 2025 Montana’s Brier is expected to be a grand celebration of the sport of curling and a major boost to the economy of Kelowna.
