52nd Annual Labor Day Regatta Kicks off with Opening Ceremony
LOCK HAVEN – The 52nd Annual Labor Day Regatta began on Saturday morning with the opening ceremony at the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheater. The event, organized by the Labor Day Regatta Committee and Delaware Valley Outboard Racing Association, attracted a large group of volunteers and participants.
Julie Brennan, tourism director for the Clinton County Visitors Bureau, delivered a brief speech during the opening ceremony. She welcomed boaters, their friends and families, as well as spectators, to the event on behalf of the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.
Brennan expressed gratitude towards the Regatta committee and Outboard Association for their efforts in growing the event. She mentioned that the Regatta attracts over a hundred boaters each year.
She highlighted the beautiful setting of the Susquehanna River, with its mountain backdrop, and encouraged everyone to enjoy the scenic views. Brennan also noted the warm and friendly nature of Clinton County residents and assured visitors that their stay would be memorable.
Addressing safety concerns, Brennan mentioned the ongoing construction of a walkway along Farrandsville Road, which would provide safer access from Lock Haven to Riverview Park. She concluded her speech by wishing everyone a safe and thrilling weekend of racing.
Following Brennan’s remarks, Valerie Sovie performed the National Anthem, and the races started with great enthusiasm. The Regatta will continue until Monday, Sept. 4, with races and various activities at the Midway on Water Street. Attendees can enjoy rides, games, food, arts and crafts, and live music each night.
Entertainment is scheduled throughout the event on the Stephen Hill Memorial Stage, featuring a lineup of local bands and musicians. The fireworks display is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 3, at 10 p.m. in case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be postponed to Monday, Sept. 4, at 9 p.m.
