New York State and Seneca Nation Sign Gaming Compact Extension

New York state and the Seneca Nation of Indians have reached an agreement to extend their current gaming compact. The extension, signed by State Gov. Kathy Hochul and Seneca Nation of Indians President Rickey L. Armstrong, Sr., will remain in effect until March 31 and will automatically renew unless either party decides not to or a new gaming compact is agreed upon. Both sides will continue negotiations for a long-term compact in the coming weeks.

Gov. Hochul expressed satisfaction with the extension, stating that it provides important momentum for negotiations. She remains committed to working with President Armstrong and the Seneca Nation to arrive at a fair agreement. President Armstrong also praised the extension, emphasizing the need to continue discussions towards a mutually beneficial compact that supports job security and economic benefits for the Western New York region.

State Sen. George Borrello has also voiced his support for the agreement, acknowledging the Seneca Nation as a valued neighbor and economic driver in Western New York. He urges the Hochul administration to use this extension productively, working towards a fair agreement that benefits all parties involved.

Uncertainty Relieved, but Further Negotiations Await

The extension of the gaming compact between New York state and the Seneca Nation provides relief from the uncertainty that has surrounded the issue as the previous expiration date approached.
