ANAHEIM, Calif. — “There are a lot of interesting trends,” John J. Oppenheimer, MD, FACAAI, clinical professor at UMDNJ Rutgers, told Healio at the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting.
These trends include biologic therapy, said Oppenheimer. In fact, he will be giving the Edward J. O’Connell Lecture, “Biologics for Asthma — 20 Years Since the First Approval and Where We Are Headed in 20 Years,” on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Oppenheimer, who also is a member of the Healio Asthma/Allergy Peer Perspective Board, noted anaphylaxis and new ways to deliver epinephrine, better strategies for helping those with food allergy and improved understanding of eczema among the other trends at the meeting, in addition to what he called his favorite subject, asthma.
“We’re learning more and more about trends in asthma, that being phenotypes and genotypes that will help us in regard to optimizing care,” he said.
