Another Step Forward for Tiny Home Project for Homeless Veterans in Kingston
Thursday morning marked a significant development in the tiny home project for veterans experiencing homelessness, as four modular homes arrived in Kingston. These homes are part of the larger veterans village project led by the not-for-profit organization Homes for Heroes, based in Calgary. Ultimately, the project aims to construct 20 modular homes to provide housing for veterans.
Each modular home will be fully equipped with a bathroom, kitchen, living room-bedroom, and other necessary amenities. Additionally, there will be three other buildings on the site that will serve as a resource center for the residents. The veterans will also have access to a wrap-around support program tailored to their specific needs, including counseling and medical treatment provided by professionals in the city.
The Kingston project has a budget of $8.5 million, and the organization has been able to stay on track thanks to the support of various businesses providing services and resources. For example, The Brick is providing furniture, Canarm is supplying electrical light fixtures, and Pure Inginuity is constructing the steel stanchions for signposts.
Despite these contributions, the Kingston Real Estate Association has played a significant role in fundraising efforts, generating over $400,000 in donations over the past three years. Gail Power, a representative from the association, emphasized the importance of supporting capable military personnel who may face challenges and just need a helping hand.
The construction of the veterans village is expected to be completed by the end of the year, providing much-needed housing for homeless veterans in Kingston.
