Grrrl Gang Releases New Single “Better Than Life”
Indonesian trio Grrrl Gang has recently dropped their latest single, “Better Than Life.” This track delves into Angeeta Sentana’s struggles with a mental disorder, as she attempts to embrace it as a normal part of her life. Despite feeling overwhelmed and trapped at times, Sentana continues to push forward.
Sentana often has a cynical and defeatist outlook towards her situation. In her own words, she admits, “Being diagnosed with any mental disorder is not a nice thing to have. I’m still in the process of accepting it as a ‘normal’ part of my life, but there are times when I would feel super down about it.”
The single is featured on Grrrl Gang’s upcoming full-length debut album, Spunky!, set to release on September 22nd by Green Island Music in partnership with an exclusive license in North, Central, and South America on Kill Rock Stars (pre-order). With Grrrl Gang’s characteristic energetic sound and Sentana’s powerful vocals, the album promises to deliver an impactful musical experience.
The music video for “Better Than Life”, directed by Bathroom Girls, is part of a continuous movie, with this video being the last chapter. In the video, an introverted girl seeks validation at a bustling house party. As she dances aggressively on her own, intoxicated, she decides to have fun like never before, disregarding her surroundings. This is the only way she can truly feel free.
The production of Spunky! involved the collaboration of renowned producer Lafa Pratomo, known for his work with artists like Danilla and Iwan Fals. Although an unconventional choice for Grrrl Gang, Pratomo’s expertise enhances the band’s sound, while still preserving their infectious melodies and raw energy.
