Kamehameha Maui Defeats Maui High in Intense Volleyball Match

Kamehameha Schools Maui’s Kiana Kaauamo and Haven De Silva put up a strong defense against Maui High’s Lexi Kitagawa in a first-set shot on Tuesday. Supported by a passionate crowd, Kamehameha Maui emerged victorious with a 25-23, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23 win over Maui High at the Shine Matsui Athletic Center.

Head coach Sienna Davis, a former Warriors setter, and senior leader Hayley Pruse led the Kamehameha Schools Maui girls volleyball team to an exhilarating victory. Pruse contributed 40 assists, four kills, and seven digs to help secure the win.

The intense match saw strong performances from both teams, with Maui High displaying excellent play and support from their crowd. However, Kamehameha Maui’s team spirit and focus on the court allowed them to come out on top.

The Warriors, known for their school spirit, drew a large, supportive audience at the event. Pruse noted the importance of their school pride and credited their fan base for playing a significant role in the team’s success.

With this win, Kamehameha Maui maintains their position as the leading team in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I with a 3-0 record. Maui High’s record falls to 1-2.

Sienna Davis, the head coach of Kamehameha Maui, is enjoying her coaching role, especially with her father, Henry Davis, on the coaching staff. Sienna highlighted the value of their different perspectives, as they work well together to guide the team.

The Warriors’ Archer Fabrao shone during the match, delivering an impressive performance with 14 kills, 14 digs, and five aces, showcasing her all-around skills. Haven De Silva also made significant contributions with nine kills and six blocks.

In the first set, Kamehameha Maui broke away from a tie with a 4-1 run that allowed them to gain control. Despite a strong comeback attempt from Maui High, a hitting error sealed the set in Kamehameha Maui’s favor.

The second set saw the Sabers take an early lead and maintain their advantage, ultimately winning the set 25-15. Kamehameha Maui regrouped in the third set, securing a 25-20 win after a late surge by Maui High.

In the fourth set, Kamehameha Maui maintained their momentum, building a comfortable lead. Maui High fought back but fell short, as Kamehameha Maui secured the final set 25-23.

Ultimately, Kamehameha Maui’s strong team performance and ability to capitalize on crucial moments ensured their victory. Maui High put up a valiant effort, showing improvement with each match and garnering support from their enthusiastic fan base.
