Volleyball Warriors Secure 20th Straight State Berth

The Kamehameha Schools Maui girls volleyball team has qualified for the state tournament for the 20th consecutive year. In the Central Pacific Bank Maui Interscholastic League Division I tournament semifinals, they defeated Maui High in four sets (25-23, 16-25, 25-14, 25-20).

Senior libero Emmi-Lin Felten, with 15 digs, expressed her team’s determination and resilience, saying, “Tonight just proved that we wanted it and that we’re coming back.”

Strong Performances

  • Zsyla Honda: 7 kills, 12 digs
  • Haylee Pruse: 2 kills, 13 digs, 41 assists
  • Haven De Silva: 10 kills, 2 digs
  • Archer Fabrao: 13 kills, 6 digs

Felten, who has been in talks with Oregon State and Western Oregon for college volleyball opportunities, highlighted the team’s hard work and dedication.

Despite the pressure to maintain their remarkable streak of qualifying for state tournaments, Felten and her teammates overcame a strong start by the Maui High Sabers to secure the victory.

Nail-Biting Sets

In the first set, the Warriors rallied from behind to win 25-23. The second set saw Maui High dominate with a 25-16 victory. In the third set, Kamehameha Maui took control early and won comfortably 25-14. The fourth set witnessed intense competition, but the Warriors emerged victorious with a 25-20 scoreline.

Mindset and Belief

Kamehameha Maui coach Sienna Davis emphasized the importance of mindset in their success, stating, “We’ve been focusing a lot on mindset and believing in themselves, and they’ve learned that it does a lot.”

Davis, who also played for the school, expressed her excitement in continuing the streak and acknowledged the strong fight put up by both teams.

Bright Future for Maui High

Despite the loss, Maui High coach Kenny Houpo praised his team’s effort and expressed optimism for the future as they bid farewell to just two seniors.

With their 20th straight state berth secured, the Kamehameha Schools Maui girls volleyball team is poised to continue their impressive legacy in the upcoming tournament.
