Complaints about Rising Christmas Event Ticket Prices in the Midlands

Christmas at the National Adventure Farm

A Facebook group called Midsmas – Christmas in the Midlands – with over 20,000 members, has been discussing the rising ticket prices of popular Christmas events in the region. Many are questioning whether these events are worth the increased cost, especially considering the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Parents understand that a meet-and-greet with Santa in the ‘North Pole’ can create lasting memories for their children. However, they have expressed concerns about the escalating ticket prices, which make it unaffordable for some families to enjoy a day out during Christmas.

One member of the group, Samantha Nelson, shared her surprise at the cost of tickets for the National Forest Adventure Farm North Pole adventure. She questioned whether the experience was worth the over £200 expenditure for her family, including petrol expenses.

Another parent, Faye Clark, acknowledged the increased price for the adventure farm but described it as a magical experience that she would return to. She shared her positive memories of spending a full day there, exploring the village, games, the farm, and indoor play areas.

However, some members, like Julie Hankey, criticized the high prices, emphasizing that Christmas event organizers should be mindful considering the current cost of living.

Meanwhile, Severn Valley Railway’s ticket prices for their Christmas experiences have seen only minimal increases since last year, with prices going up by around £3-7. Lesley Carr, head of marketing and communications at Severn Valley Railway (SVR), explained that the price increases were necessary due to rising costs but assured families that they strive to keep the prices as low as possible.

Aside from the discussions about rising ticket costs, Wolverhampton’s money-saving mum, Amy Grayland, shared her tips on affordable Christmas day outs. She suggested looking for free Santa sleigh rides organized by local groups with donations accepted, as well as visiting the more affordable Santa’s grotto at the Mander Centre. Grayland also recommended shopping for secondhand gifts on platforms like Vinted and enjoying home activities like watching Christmas movies, engaging in crafts, and taking advantage of supermarket rewards.
