Constructive Institute Asia Pacific Officially Established at Monash University

Today, the Embassy of Denmark in Canberra hosted the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Monash University Faculty of Arts and the Constructive Institute in Aarhus, Denmark. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to transforming the global news culture and restoring media integrity. At the ceremony, Professor Katie Stevenson, Dean of Arts, Monash University, provided the final signature.

Mission of the Constructive Institute Asia Pacific

The establishment of the Constructive Institute Asia Pacific at Monash University Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the Constructive Institute in Denmark, marks a significant step towards fostering healthier democracies. The Institute aims to support journalists and news organizations in applying constructive reporting through fellowship programs, best practices, reporting projects, and independent academic research. Distinguished journalist, Professor Stan Grant, was appointed as the Director of the Institute earlier this year.

Enhancing Democratic Values

Professor Katie Stevenson highlighted the importance of the MoU signing in not only bringing together two influential global organizations but also emphasizing the shared commitment of Australia and Denmark to democratic values. She emphasized the critical role of journalism in promoting these values and driving positive change.

Helen Boyd, General Manager of the Faculty of Arts, welcomed the university’s inclusion in the global constructive journalism network. She emphasized the agreement’s reflection of Monash Arts’ commitment to addressing the challenges posed by an ever-evolving media landscape and promoting democratic dialogue.

Upcoming Launch in Melbourne

The Constructive Institute Asia Pacific is set to be officially launched in Melbourne in early 2024, further contributing to the institute’s mission of transforming the global news culture and rebuilding media integrity.
