Littleton’s Market opens next week
Ohio is getting a new grocery store and, no, it is not from Cincinnati-based Kroger. Locally owned Littleton’s Market will open its new store in Upper Arlington, Ohio, on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The 2140 Tremont Center location on the northwest side of the city of Columbus used to house a UA Food Market grocery store. And fans are more than ready for the doors to open.
With a goal of being a premier store for people who love food and wine, Littleton’s Market said it plans to continue to carry on a long tradition of locally owned groceries that began at Tremont Center in the 1950s and included Huffman’s Market, which filled the space for more than 30 years.
On Friday, Littleton’s Market posted “get your shopping bags ready” on its Facebook page, which has shoppers more than excited.

Say hello to Chicago’s newest Asian grocer
The anticipation for the opening of Gangnam Market in Chicago is coming to an end.
The new 28,000-square-foot store features Asian specialties and goods. Bold neon signs for various departments and wide, roomy aisles are perfect for the shopping carts with designated drink holders. The supermarket also includes a food court with a full bar and six Asian food vendors.
Gangnam Market is located at 1001 W. Chicago Ave. If you are in the Windy City be sure to check it out!
Holiday happenings!
There are many events from independent grocers regarding the holidays. To name them all would be impossible, but here are two.
Calling all gingerbread artists. Tewksbury, Massachusetts-based grocery retailer Market Basket’s Gingerbread Madness is back for 2023! The regional supermarket owned by Demoulas Super Markets is kicking off the holiday season with its annual gingerbread house-decorating competition.
Did you know that Americans throw away 25% more trash during the Thanksgiving to New Year’s holiday period than any other time of year? MOM’s Organic Market does. Family-owned and -operated since 1987, MOM’s Organic Market’s holiday lights recycling event is taking place from now to Jan. 31 at all of the grocer’s locations.
So what happens to the lights? Great question. According to the grocer’s website: “A Better Way Recycling collects all lights and then breaks them down through smelting or shredding to recover raw materials. These raw materials are then used to create roofing and construction materials, piping, car batteries, other electronics, lead wheel weights, flatware, jewelry and more!”
